Archos looks to periodic table for 97 Carbon inspiration

When it comes to the world of tablets, they are dime a dozen. Apple’s iPad can be “calculated” in generations, but in the highly fragmented world of Android, you know that tons of manufacturers do their utmost best to release what they deem to be the best Android-powered tablet. I cannot blame them though, as this market does seem to be an extremely lucrative one, and Archos is one of the players here. The latest range from Archos would be a member of the Elements line, and the first member of the family would be the 97 Carbon.

To cut the long story short, the Archos 97 Carbon is said to deliver the “latest mobile technology” (we will see about that) with a new slim and light design. Hopefully it will be slightly different from the competition, otherwise it is like the same burger under different packaging. Let us check out the Archos 97 Carbon in the extended post.

The Archos 97 Carbon will be part of the Elements family as mentioned earlier, which in turn is entry-level line up of 7, 8, and 9.7-inch tablets which merges Archos design and engineering alongside unrestricted access to Google Play, not to mention a full suite of Google apps without breaking the bank.

Coming in an elegant aluminum finish, the Archos 97 Carbon tips the scales at a surprisingly lightweight 21.8 ounces, where it will measure 0.45” thick. Your eyes will be treated to a sharp and clear IPS multi-touch screen that is said to deliver amazing vivid colors and impressive wide viewing angles. A 1GHz processor runs proceedings from underneath the hood, in addition to 1GB RAM and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as the operating system version of choice. No idea on whether it will get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the near future, but we shall wait and see.

The Archos 97 Carbon will be available Stateside from this month onwards at $249.99 a pop – not too shabby, don’t you think so?

Archos Child Pad ready to hit the market

So your little one has been hankering after you for a new tablet, considering how you do your very best to prevent him or her from coming anywhere near your iPad each time you come home from work? This unique Archos Child Pad will come in a compact and lightweight design, not to mention run on a 1GHz processor, accompanied by 1GB RAM while having Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as the operating system of choice. Pretty neat, since that would mean not having to loiter around and keeping your fingers crossed for an operating system update which might not even arrive in the end.

To make sure that your kids love it to the max, it will feature special Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 content like behind-the-scene clips, images from the movie, wallpapers, and even an online game. If they want something more feathery, there is always the pre-loaded Angry Birds game to keep them occupied, and as a parent, you will be pleased to know that this $129.99 tablet comes pre-loaded with a 6-month parental control application for child-safe web browsing. It boasts of a redesigned interface that features colored icons and folders to deliver direct access to games, apps and books, and has 4GB of internal memory to get you started.

Archos Arnova 7b and 10b G2 specs released

Official specifications of the Archos Arnova 7b and 10b G2 tablets have been released, and these economically savvy devices look to be decently equipped. Both tablets will ship with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) on-board and available in 8GB and 4GB storage options. Front facing welcomes are included in both models, and they also include micro SD slots for expanding storage by up to 32GB.

Both will be powered by a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 single core processor; though not the most powerful tablets on the block, they should be fine running most applications smoothly. The Archos Arnova 7B G2 will last up to 8 hours and 40 minutes during video playback – 40 minutes longer on a single charge than the 10? model. The 10B G2 will sport a TFT LCD supporting 16 million colors and a 1024×600 pixel resolution while the 7? settles for a lower 800×480 resolution.

These slates will be excellent for watching movies in full HD, and have very decent specs for their low price tags. Surprising enough, you can actually choose if you would rather a capacitive or resistive touchscreen! I couldn’t imaging choosing a resistive touchscreen over capacitive, but I’m also sure there’s someone out there who would.
