T-Mobile HTC One X+ rumored with quad-core and Jelly Bean

It appears that T-Mobile will soon be getting the HTC One X, although this time around it will be coming with slightly different branding. HTC’s powerhouse will apparently be called the HTC One X+ when it arrives at T-Mobile, and though there are many things that are similar to the currently-available One X, there are a few key differences. For instance, the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor will be returning in the One X+, giving the One X+ a pretty significant boost in processing power over AT&T’s dual-core model.

The One X+ will also be running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean when it arrives, if the NenaMark2 benchmark results from TmoNews are to believed. The standard One X runs Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, so if this is true, the One X+ will be getting a pretty major upgrade as far as operating systems go.

Other than the increase in processing power and the shiny new install of Jelly Bean, the One X+ will be more or less the same as the One X. That 4.7-inch screen is still capable of running a resolution of 1280 x 720, which means 720p playback. The HTC One X+ apparently has been codenamed the HTC Evitaire for the moment, and currently, we don’t have any idea of when HTC is planning to pull the veil off this bad boy.

The HTC One X+ is said to making its debut at T-Mobile sometime in September, so anxious HTC fans may not have much longer to wait. Our pals over at Android Community have passed along a rumor that this may be headed to AT&T as well, but with the standard HTC X currently soaking up the spotlight at AT&T, that doesn’t seem all that likely. Anything goes in the realm of smartphones, however, so the HTC One X+ could very well be headed to AT&T’s shelves. Stay tuned.

Purported HTC One XXL specs: quad-core Snapdragon and LTE (Update: Fake)

Yesterday we saw details of HTC’s proposed Windows Phone 8 lineup, featuring some nice specs to go along with the refreshed operating system. The company might be busy at work on yet another flagship Android smartphone as well, with specs emerging for a potential HTC One XXL. The device is said to have a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, a 4.7-inch Super LCD2 display, and LTE connectivity.

The current HTC One XL makes use of a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor to utilize LTE capabilities. The quad-core Tegra 3 chip found in the international HTC One X is currently incompatible with LTE, so HTC might want to have its cake and eat it too by offering both quad-core and LTE with Qualcomm’s solutions. The APQ8064 chip is said to be clocked at 1.6Ghz and is paired with an Adreno 350 GPU.

It looks like the display will be the same that’s found on the current HTC One X and XL, a 720p Super LCD2 panel, and the camera will feature the same 8-megapixel sensor. RAM, however, will see a bump to 2GB, matching what’s found in the American versions of the Galaxy S III. It isn’t clear if the design of the phone will stay the same, but see what you can make out in the dim and shaky video embedded below. We recommend you take all of this with your daily dose of salt in the meantime.

UPDATE: Many have cried foul over the alleged screenshots, with the texture on the settings menu not matching what’s found on current Sense 4.0 devices, and the previously embedded video has been made private. On top of that, would HTC really release a new flagship device so soon and risk customer loyalty? Apologies, friends, but the information is more likely than not fake.

NVIDIA’s Kai aims for $199 quad-core Android tablets

At CES 2012, NVIDIA and ASUS took to the stage and announced the MeMo 370T, a quad-core Tegra 3 Android tablet that would cost just $249. Rumors have suggested that the tablet has since been cancelled, or possibly rebranded as Google’s Nexus tablet, but there hasn’t been any other attempts by a company to hit that price point with such powerful specs. NVIDIA has now laid out the concept as an official strategy, dubbed “Kai”.

The idea seems simple enough: offer quad-core Android tablets that hit a $199 price point. How will they achieve that? The Kai strategy allows NVIDIA to take ideas from Tegra 3 and pair them with lower cost components, as well as reduce the power consumed by the display of the tablet. The end result is an Android tablet running Ice Cream Sandwich at a compelling price point.

Kai then is most likely a reference design or guideline for Android OEMs to order to hit such an aggressive price. The ASUS MeMo 370T was probably the testbed for the project, although we have to wonder where the tablet has disappeared to, and if we’ll be seeing a retail release in the future. NVIDIA didn’t go on to say when we’d be seeing products developed using Kai, but hopefully the future will be filled with tablets designed around Kai.
